Dig a little deeper and draw that circumference around the map a little wider and you can become submerged in a country oasis of Byron’s Hinterlands. With long winding roads and breathtaking mountain views, there is something to do for all holiday makers, family’s, couples and girls weekends alike. Here’s a little guide to Byron Hinterlands in which we explored thanks to Holden Australia

Friday

Arrive in Coolangatta and pick up your hire car

(Holden Astra makes for the perfect weekend road trip car, zippy around the mountains, easy to park while still having space and ample boot room for all your weekend necessities).

Drive south down to Byron and take the hinterland exit.

Check into accommodation.

We stayed at this gorgeous Tree House Villa nestled in the hill side of Coopers Shoot, with gorgeous modern interior and sweeping views of the 30 acre property, it honestly was the perfect place submerged in nature for a weekend of rest and restore).

Explore the hills

We took off on a drive around Coopers Shoot into Newrybar. By this time it was getting a bit late so we stopped into the fame HARVEST bar for a vino and cheese platter. The perfect afternoon chill-session.

Cozy up at home

Back to the Tree house we went to make the most of this stunning abode, we set up shop for the night and the cheese platter affair continued and so does the red as we cosy on the couch and settle in for the night.

Saturday

Get Moving

After a slow morning we took a walk around the beautiful countryside, we explored our property before hitting the pavement for a slow jog through Cooper Shoot. Watch out for the hills, they are killer!

Explore

Back in the Holden, Astra for another trip into HARVEST. We took the time to potter around, and found it to be one of the cutest little towns you will ever come by with boutique shops and gourmet food. We picked up a coffee and some brekky and embarked on a little Saturday road-trip adventure.

Stop and purchase organic fruit and vegetables

Along the road there are so many incredible little fruit and vegetable stalls. Make sure you stop to check out the local produce! Most operating on a compelling honesty system.

Head to Killen Waterfall

Just 20 minutes drive from Newrybar, lies a gorgeous waterfall, a hidden gem of Byron’s hinterland. Killen Falls is a large swimming hole on Emigrant Creek with a 10m waterfall at one end. A short 10 minute walk through a the tropical forest and you come to a gorgeous viewing platform when water rushes into a beautiful well of fresh water. The perfect spot for swimming!

Head to Federal for a late lunch

Word on the street there is an amazing Japanese restaurant in Federal, without further ado we hope back in our Holden Astra and set up shop at DOMA for the afternoon of Japanese feasting in their alfresco garden, complete with roaming chickens.

Sunday

Hello Sunday, a little sleep in and raring to go. We checked out of A-la-Villa-Tree house and made our way into Bryon center for a coffee and brunch at a local favourite: Top Shop.

Check in at a Byron abode

We chose to stay at The Atlantic, truly a beautiful space in the perfect location to all on Byron’s attractions.

Walk up to Cape Byron Lighthouse

Enjoy spectacular coastal views along the Cape Byron walking track that takes you on a hike through rainforest, beach, grassland and cliff tops to the lighthouse. Just a 3.7 return, it makes for a perfect relaxed walk
