OKAY, you’ve heard of hemp and its medicinal healing powers that go far beyond its hippie association. While it is a variety of the Cannabis Satvua plant species we can assure you hemp and marijuana are grown for different uses with a rise of Hemp based products surfacing around the globe. We caught up with the man behind Hempme; Alec Wren to find out all about this nutrient rich, mineral based face cream– Hemp Me and how Hemp is beneficial for your skin.
What is Hemp Seed Oil, and how does is benefit the skin?
Hemp Seed Oil is cold pressed from the seed of the hemp plant. Proclaimed to be the most balanced oil found in nature, Hemp Seed Oil displays a huge variety of skin loving benefits.
It has the optimum ratio of healthy fats, is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, as well as being antibacterial and antifungal. On top of this it has a comedogenic rating of 0 (meaning it won’t block your pores) and shows very little evidence of irritability for those with sensitive skin.

At a time of unprecedented climate change and population growth, the hemp plant can play a big part in helping the world move towards a more sustainable future.
Hemp is an incredibly sustainable plant that has so many uses. It requires very little water and no pesticides or herbicides to grow – developing from seed to harvest in less than 3 months. Utilising all parts of the plant it can be used to produce clothing, paper, bio-plastics, shelter, rope, canvas, food, fuels and medicine – you will not find a more versatile plant!
What types of skin conditions can we see the best results?
We wanted to make a well-balanced face cream to be suitable for all skin types. Our face cream is light for troubled skin, yet hydrating for dry. We wanted to provide an option for those who are mindful of what they are putting onto their skin, and who may be sensitive to unnatural ingredients found in typical skincare.
What other nourishing ingredients make up Hempme?
We packed our face cream with some of nature’s finest, all chosen for their unique skin-loving properties. Other than Hemp Seed Oil you will find Aloe Vera, Chamomile Extract, Jojoba Oil, Kakadu Plum Oil, Green Tea Extract, Argan Oil and more.
Your face cream is all natural, organic, cruelty free, vegan and comes in a bio-degradable tube. How important is this message to your consumers?
We wanted to show that you can produce high quality skin care that is 100% naturally derived. Nature knows best!
We want our customers to know exactly what they are putting on their skin, while minimising unnecessary harm on animals and mother earth. Our certification from ACO was very important to us, as it ensures a high standard of requirements are met from soil to tube.
What’s in the future for Hempme?
We are currently developing our next product to complement our face cream; a certified organic face cleanser. As the hemp plant is so versatile, we are always looking into how Hempme can expand into other industries.
Lastly, where can we find it?
The best way find it is via our website, www.hempme.com.au.
